Nepal – On Top of the World | 10 Days, 8 Nights

8 min readSeptember 9, 2019Dimitris

There is one trip that every traveller dreaming of the Himalayas wants to do at least once in their life — and this is it. "Nepal — On Top of the World" is our 10-day / 8-night group tour that ties together the country's three great worlds in one carefree programme: the mystical Kathmandu Valley with its UNESCO monuments, the jungle of Chitwan National Park with its rhinos, and the lakeside town of Pokhara beneath the snow-capped peaks of Annapurna. Everything organised, with a Greek-speaking host at your side from the first day to the last — you simply enjoy.

Why do it as a group with a Greek host

Behind the trip is Dimitris, the Greek of Nepal, and a team on the ground that knows the country inch by inch. You are not just another tourist on a faceless foreign schedule: you travel in a small group, on a tried-and-tested programme, with pre-booked stays and someone who speaks your language solving every question — from the visa and money to what to eat. If it is your first time in Asia, this is the safest and most carefree way to discover Nepal. Want to see the "compass" first? Take a look at our ready-made itineraries and the complete guide to Nepal.

The moments you'll keep

Every day of this trip holds an image that stays with you forever. Here are a few you'll carry long after you're home:

  • The sunrise at Sarangkot, when the sun turns the peaks of Annapurna and Machapuchare gold.
  • The Boudhanath stupa at sunset, with pilgrims circling it clockwise and butter lamps lighting one by one.
  • The Chitwan safari, with a rhino crossing the river a few metres from you.
  • The calm of Phewa Lake in the afternoon, wooden boats and mountains mirrored on the water.
  • A plate of dal bhat shared with the group after a day full of images.

Where you'll stay & how you'll eat

Accommodation is in selected 3–4 star hotels in the cities and a comfortable jungle lodge in Chitwan, always with a private bathroom and hot water. In Kathmandu we stay near Thamel, in the heart of the action; in Pokhara with a view or a short walk from the lake. As for food, you'll try the national dish dal bhat (rice, lentils, vegetables), fragrant curries, fresh momos and Nepali milk tea. Breakfast is daily, and in Chitwan you have full board. Your Greek host knows the best local restaurants for the rest — from authentic Nepali cuisine to a pizza, if you miss one.

Difficulty level — who it's for

The trip is easy to moderate and does not include high-altitude trekking. The highest point of the programme is Sarangkot at ~1,600 metres — meaning zero risk of altitude sickness. You'll walk up sloping monument alleys, along jungle trails and on a short morning climb for the sunrise, but nothing that requires special fitness. It is ideal for a first time in Nepal, for couples, for friends and for travellers of every age who want to see culture, nature and the Himalayas without the challenge of a major trek. Before you go, see what to pack and which is the best time to travel to Nepal.

Upcoming departures

We organise departures on fixed dates, twice a year, in the two ideal seasons for Nepal: autumn (October–November) with the clearest skies and perfect mountain visibility, and spring (March–May) with warm weather and blooming rhododendrons along the trails. Spaces on each group are limited and fill up early — so if you have a period in mind, get in touch early to reserve your spot.
